New Directions Scholarship

A four-year renewable scholarship for incoming new freshmen enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program with an intended major in the College of Letters & Science. Strong applicants will have a high school GPA of 3.75 or higher, strong writing skills as demonstrated on the application, and an array of high school activities.

Applications are accepted each year between October and December 31. Applications are reviewed in January and February, and recipients are notified in February or March.

The application is in three parts:

  1. Complete the Panther Scholarship Portal General Application
  2. Complete the College of Letters & Science Scholarships and Awards Application which consists of just one item – upload a copy of your high school transcript showing your most recent grades
  3. Complete the New Directions Application which includes an essay

Awards given in spring are for the following school year so only INCOMING freshmen are eligible to apply. E.G. applications reviewed in January/February 2023 are for students who will be starting at UWM as a new freshman in Fall 2023.
