New Directions Scholarship

A four-year renewable scholarship for incoming new freshmen enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program with an intended major in the College of Letters & Science. ONLY STUDENTS ADMITTED AS A NEW FRESHMAN FOR FALL 2022 ARE ELIGIBLE FOR THIS SCHOLARSHIP.

Strong applicants will have a high school GPA of 3.75 or higher. In order to be considered for this scholarship, students must have completed the following sections on the General Application:

  • Co-Curricular Activities
  • Community Service/Volunteer Service
  • Work Experience
  • Academic Achievements
  • Reason for Choosing UWM
  • Academic/Career Goals

Students may edit their General application at any point that it remains open.

In addition, applicants will need to submit:

  • An essay on this topic: “Now that you are in your last year of high school, what advice would you give to an 8th grader who will soon enter high school to help them have a successful high school experience.”
  • A copy of your high school transcript (unofficial is acceptable)

  2. The world faces many current challenges. Choose one and write an essay no longer than 800 words that 1) identifies the problem and why you think it is important and 2) outlines an idea, big or small, that would help solve the problem.
