E. Paul & Jane Humke International Mathematics Scholarship

The E. Paul and Jane Humke International Mathematics Scholarship is given to a student for participation in the 2024 summer or 2024 fall study abroad program in mathematics in Budapest, Hungary. More information about the study abroad semester can be found at: https://budapestsemesters.com/summer-program/ for summer or https://www.budapestsemesters.com/apply-2/ for the fall program.

The scholarship provides $6,000 towards the costs of the program. For the summer program this would cover the full tuition cost plus a portion of the other expenses (food, transportation and housing). The student would be responsible for all remaining expenses. The program is eligible for financial aid as well and students should explore funding options involving other financial aid with the study abroad office. For the fall program, the scholarship would only cover a little under half of the tuition and none of the other expenses.

Eligible students will be math, applied math, or actuarial science majors with at least sophomore standing and a strong record of academic success. Students should have completed one semester of real analysis or abstract algebra prior to going abroad in order to successfully complete the coursework in Budapest. The student offered the scholarship must still apply and be accepted to the Budapest program in order to receive the scholarship. Their deadline to apply for Summer 2024 is also March 1; the deadline to apply for Fall 2024 is April 1. Questions about the scholarship can be directed to Prof. Gabriella Pinter (gapinter@uwm.edu).
