NRC Study Abroad Scholarship
The CIE-National Resource Center Title VI Grant offers a limited number of Study Abroad Scholarships in the amount of $1,500-$2,000 for undergraduates (sophomores and above) or graduate students with a demonstrated interest in Critical Languages as defined by the U.S. government. This definition includes these languages taught at UWM: Arabic, Chinese, Greek, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Russian.
The scholarship supports students accepted into an approved UWM-sponsored semester-long, year-long or short-term (Summer or Winter) study abroad program that includes critical language instruction. Undergraduate or graduate students from any major or field of study are invited to apply. Virtual study abroad or internships are also acceptable.
Please contact Rachel Hegland, rhegland@uwm.edu with any questions.
Eligible students must have a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA and a demonstrated academic interest in a critical language language as shown through coursework/extra-curricular activities. Preference will be given to students who are first-generation and/or have documented financial need.
The study abroad opportunity must occur sometime between January and August 2025 (not necessarily for this entire time period) and students must meet all deadlines to apply for study abroad approval through the Center for International Education (CIE). Students accepted into a study abroad program for UWinteriM or Spring 2025 semester should apply for this scholarship by October 30, 2024. Students accepted into a study abroad program for Summer 2025 should apply for this scholarship by February 15, 2025.
