NRC Study Abroad Scholarship
The CIE-National Resource Center Title VI Grant offers a limited number of Study Abroad Scholarships in the amount of $1,500-$2,000 for students studying a world language other than English, with priority given to those studying a critical languages as defined by the U.S. government. This definition includes these languages taught at UWM: Arabic, Chinese, Greek, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, and Russian.
The scholarship supports students accepted into an approved UWM-sponsored summer or fall 2025 study abroad program. Payment will be distributed in spring 2025. Students from any field of study are invited to apply. Virtual study abroad is also acceptable.

Eligible students must have a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA. Preference will be given to students who are first-generation and/or have documented financial need.
Students must meet all deadlines to apply for study abroad approval through the Center for International Education (CIE). Students accepted into a study abroad program for Summer or fall 2025 should file all needed applications with CIE by March 1, 2025.

- Letter of Recommendation: Please provide the name and email address of a former or current professor who can provide a letter of recommendation on your behalf. Ideally, this individual should be from your area of study.
- Describe how your study of a critical language fits into your academic program and your academic, personal, and professional goals.
- Describe how the funds will be used toward a study abroad or virtual study abroad experience, should you be selected. Describe the credit-bearing program abroad you plan to participate in.
