Dr. Robert Ritzenthaler Memorial Research Internship in Anthropology

Anthropology graduate students who are currently enrolled in, or recently completed the requirements for, the Museum Studies Graduate Certificate Program at UWM are eligible to apply for this $2,500 scholarship, which provides financial support so the student can complete an internship focused on material culture collections in a museum during Summer 2025. Priority will be given to projects in the Cultural Sciences Division at the Milwaukee Public Museum. As an option, students may register for Anthro 621G (Internship in Museum Studies); if they do so, they will be required to complete at least 135 hours of work during the internship.

Required application materials:

  • Statement describing the project to be undertaken, the applicant’s preparedness to undertake the project, and the intended outcome (e.g., thesis/dissertation data collection or completion, initial data collection for larger grant proposal, completion of course project). [500 word max]
  • Provide the name and email address of the staff member at the host institution who will be supervising the internship. They will be asked to provide a letter of support describing the institutional need for an intern and the impact of the project on the strategic goals of the institution.
  • Applicant CV or resumé

  • Quality and viability of applicant’s proposal
  • Applicant’s demonstrated abilities and potential
