Awarded to new freshmen pursuing computer science, data science, or information technology majors. View the Diversity in Tech Education Scholarship webpage for additional information.

Eligibility Requirements:

  1. Graduate of a high school located in the City of Milwaukee
  2. Academic merit or potential
  3. Demonstrated financial need
  4. Major in, or intention to major in, one of the technology-related academic programs listed below, with a preference for students enrolled in programs wholly or partially offered through the College of Engineering & Applied Science (CEAS).

Technology-Related Programs:

  • Computer Science (BS)
  • Computer Science (BA)
  • Computer Engineering (BS)
  • Applied Mathematics and Computer Science (BS, offered jointly with the Math Department in Letters & Science)
  • Data Science (BS) (Math Department, offered jointly with CEAS)
  • Information Science & Technology (BS, School of Information Studies)
  • Information Technology Management (BBA, Lubar School of Business)

Students do not need to have completed a computer science course/experience in high school to be eligible to apply, but they must be pursuing one of the UWM technology-related academic programs listed above. This full-ride, last-dollar scholarship will pay for direct costs including tuition, fees, on-campus housing, and on-campus dining for up to five years.

  1. Discuss your interest in seeking a degree in technology.
  2. This scholarship is provided to increase diversity in tech education. UWM values diversity and embraces and respects the innumerable different perspectives found in its increasingly integrated and diverse community. UWM also recognizes that there are many different types of diversity – including, for example, socioeconomic status, first-generation college students, languages spoken, and prior work or volunteer experience. Discuss how your life experiences will enrich UWM’s campus community and the field of technology. Consider the experiences you have had in high school, with your family, or in your community. Specific examples and how they will shape your future are encouraged.
  3. List the courses you are taking in the fall semester of your senior year of high school.
  4. As part of the evaluation and selection process, the application review committee will review your responses to the following questions on the Panther Scholarship Portal General Application:
    A) Please discuss why UWM is the right school for you.

    C) Please explain why you are seeking financial assistance and how a scholarship will assist you with your educational expenses.
