Department of Geosciences Award

The Department of Geosciences, benefiting from many generous donations from our alumni, gives various awards to high-achieving students engaged in research. Geosciences majors and minors often conduct much of their own research above and beyond the expectations of their curriculum study, and these students are eligible for these awards. Recipients will also have overall demonstrated academic merit. Graduate students with the top research projects and who are in the final year of their degree programs also are eligible for these awards.

Applications are typically accepted in January and February and are paid the following summer or fall unless a student is graduating in May. E.g. most recipients chosen in February 2024 will receive payment in summer or fall 2024.

There is a single common application for geosciences students to complete in order to be considered for all geosciences scholarships and awards. For the 2024 calendar year, graduate students in geosciences should complete this application https://uwm.academicworks.com/opportunities/14993
