Tammy Kukla
What was originally intended as a one-semester position, simply a bridge until her lease was up that summer, quickly became a lifelong calling. The passion, empathy, and dedication within her took root, and Tammy went on to become a committed veteran teacher in Milwaukee Public Schools. Tammy formed strong, immediate connections with her students and their families, thanks to her open-mindedness and deep understanding. At her core, she was an urban educator — firm, fair, and driven by a mission to uplift those around her. She was a respected leader in the district, and her impact extended far beyond her own classroom. Known as a no-nonsense educator, Tammy was deeply respected by students, colleagues, and families alike. She led with integrity, purpose, and heart. Her presence will be missed, but the seeds she planted will continue to grow in classrooms throughout the district for years to come.
Impact
Over the years, Tammy mentored nearly a hundred education students from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. She was passionate about preparing the next generation of teachers, ensuring they left her classroom with a well-stocked ’’teacher toolbox" and the confidence to lead their own rooms. Many of her mentees went on to become Milwaukee Public Schools educators themselves — a lasting legacy of her guidance and care.
