Susan D. Mischler '72
Susan D. Mischler was born in Milwaukee and has lived and worked in this community her entire life except for the four years she was away at college in New York. Sue attended Vassar College, earning the AB degree in 1970. Upon her return to Milwaukee, she enrolled in the MBA program at Marquette University, but soon transferred to UWM to pursue the BBA in Accounting, which she achieved in 1972. “I think there is tremendous value in a liberal arts education,” she says. “It makes people more interesting.” Sue joined Arthur Young & Company (now Ernst & Young) in May 1972 and passed the CPA exams a few months later. “UWM prepared me to succeed. The accounting program and professors were really top notch.” Five years later, she was recruited by the former First Bank Milwaukee (now U.S. Bank) and was gradually promoted to Vice President and Trust Officer. She stayed 20 years before joining the Whyte Hushbeck Dudek, where she stayed 20 years. “I worked with talented people and wonderful clients at each place, and was part of remarkable and successful projects. I’ve always enjoyed my work.”
Impact
Sue’s motivation for giving stems from her upbringing and personal experience. “It’s important that those of us who have been helped help others as we are able. At UWM, I am focusing international travel experience for business students. If you have an opportunity to travel abroad, experience a different culture, and to learn about how business is done in foreign countries, that’s going to be helpful down the road.”
