Reuben K. Harpole Jr.
Reuben earned a BS in Education at UWM, where he worked for 31 years. He received an honorary doctorate from UWM in recognition of his work to improve Milwaukee?s impoverished communities. With her MA and law degrees, Mildred was also a local force in Milwaukee. She was a reading specialist for MPS, an administrator for Harambee School, and president of a national sorority for African American women.
Impact
The Harpoles want to inspire students of diverse racial and ethnic backgrounds to become teachers and valuable role models for students in primary and secondary grades. They provide support for the financially needy, and hope they can encourage more males to enter the teaching profession.
