Lois O'Keefe
Lois Gonyo O’Keefe dedicated herself to service and solidarity. She used her MA in Industrial and Labor Relations to organize workers with the Service Employees International Union and was appointed to the position of Regional Representative of the Secretary of Labor under the Clinton Administration. She would go on to serve on the staff of Wisconsin Senator Herb Kohl, as the director of the REACH program at the Milwaukee Public Industry Council, and as District Director for Congresswoman Gwen Moore. In appreciation for her many years of service, Mayor Tom Barrett declared September 30, 2013, Lois O’Keefe Day.
Impact
A UWM alumna, Lois O’Keefe earned her BA in Political Science in 1982 and completed classwork for the UWM Masters in Human Resources and Labor Relations. The latter coursework relates to her career in labor activism.
