Gregory M. Ahrenhoerster '98 and Family and Friends of Lori Ahrenhoerster

Gregory Ahrenhoerster creates this scholarship in loving memory of his wife, Lori Ahrenhoerster (1970 – 2020). Lori lived most of her life in Wisconsin, earning a teaching degree from UW-La Crosse in 1992 before moving to Milwaukee. After a short career as a high school science teacher, she stayed home for twelve years to raise her three children before returning to graduate school in 2009 as part of the inaugural class of what was then called the UWM Joseph J. Zilber School of Public Health. In 2014, Lori became the first-ever graduate of the PhD program in Environmental Health Sciences.

Lori was a gifted teacher and was particularly adept at explaining science to non-scientists, which led her to begin mentoring people who had been diagnosed with the same cancer that eventually took her life, helping people understand the biological processes of the disease and the treatments.

Impact

Lori Ahrenhoerster would be overjoyed to have a scholarship in her name and know that she was able to continue contributing to the worlds of higher education and public health.
