Gerald D. Vatland and Family and Friends of Astor Vatland
Gerald (Jerry) Vatland created this scholarship in honor and loving memory of his wife, Astor M. Vatland (1946-2019). Astor, born in Hong Kong, graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Nursing from UWM in 1977. Prior to that, she received a bachelor’s degree in Social Science from UW-La Crosse. She had a 29+ year career as a registered nurse at St. Nicholas Hospital and the Sheboygan County Health and Human Services Department.
Astor and Jerry met in La Crosse. They were married for 47 years and have two daughters and three grandchildren.
Impact
Jerry and Astor Vatland were regular, long-term donors to the College of Nursing at UWM. Her nursing degree and career gave Astor a meaningful and fulfilling life. Jerry established this scholarship to honor her.
