Friends and Family of Robert B. Jones

Robert B. Jones was a literature professor at UWM who was murdered in November 1993. He received his BA from Memphis State University in 1970, his MA from Southern Illinois Carbondale in 1972. and his PhD from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1981. Prior to joining UWM, he taught at Rice University. At UWM, Jones served on the African American Faculty Council, the Undergraduate Curriculum Committee and chaired both the 19th Century Recruitment and Minority Recruitment Committees.

He was known as a passionate teacher and advocate for undergraduates, especially African American students.He was actively involved in mentoring students in the Black Student Union. He was also known as a tough but fair teacher, holding students to account with deadlines and grading without a curve. He expected a lot from his students in order to have them reach their highest potential.
