Fredlyn Kruglak Viel '72

Fredlyn was a commuter student who enjoyed the camaraderie of her classmates and greatly appreciated the profound impact professors had on her academically and personally, challenging her with new ideas and new ways of seeing the world. Fredlyn earned her BS in Social Work in 1972, interned at Goodwill and Clement J. Zablocki Veteran’s Administration Medical Center in Milwaukee, and then worked for many years as a social worker for Milwaukee County. Later in her career, Fredlyn was again connected to UWM as a field instructor of HBSSW students/interns at Jewish Family Services. At JFS, Fredlyn saw the struggle of many HBSSW students to pay for tuition and costs associated with attending the University while pursuing their social work degree.

Impact

In concert with her values and a life-long desire to help others, especially those who will help others, the donor established the Fredlyn Kruglak Viel scholarship. With this scholarship gift to HBSSW students, Fredlyn intends to inspire the devoted instructors and hard-working students of HBSSW to continue deeply and sincerely helping people.
