Estate of Martine Darmon Meyer
Martine Darmon Meyer (1929-2013) was a beloved professor of French language, literature and civilization at UWM for more than 40 years. Born in Casablanca, Morocco, she left Northern Africa to study English at Smith College, and continued her education at UW-Madison, where she received her PhD in French. Martine Meyer served for many years as the Chair of the Department of French, Italian & Comparative Literature. One colleague described her as “the soul of UWM French and of our Department” because of her “openness, kindness and respect for us all.” In addition to her teaching, she served two terms as President of the Alliance Francaise de Milwaukee in 1956-58 and 1998-2000. She is survived by her daughter Stephanie L. Meyer and her granddaughter, Kenza El Abdallaoui.

This scholarship was created to financially support needy students who are graduates of the Public School System of the City of Milwaukee through tuition assistance.
