Dr. Philip F. Judy
Dr. Philip F. Judy earned his undergraduate degree in Applied Science from the UWM College of Engineering & Applied Science in 1964. He received a Ph.D. in Radiological Sciences (Physics) in 1971 from UW-Madison. In 1973, he joined the Physics and Engineering Division at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. He served as a senior researcher for the Division throughout his career. In 2013, he retired from the Division and from his appointment as Associate Professor of Radiology at Harvard University.
Dr. Judy participated in the initial research that applied computed tomography (CT) to the study of the heart. He has studied several novel X-ray detectors. His more recent research has investigated medical image perception. He was particularly interested in the relationships between CT image quality measurements and the diagnostic performance of radiologists using CT images of the liver and lung.
Impact
Dr. Judy hopes his gifts will support faculty and graduate student research in biomedical engineering, the field in which he spent his career. He stated, “I was fortunate to spend my career in research doing something I loved, and I want to give back to the next generation of engineers and researchers at the university that started my lifelong journey of discovery.”
