Douglas W. Johnson '82

Douglas W. Johnson (1951-2021) earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from UWM in 1977 and his Bachelor of Science in Nursing from UWM in 1982. Doug served as a Clinical Nurse for the Milwaukee County Mental Health Center, the Community Psychiatric Services, and the Holton Street Clinic, where he also later served as the Clinic Director. Doug went on to serve as a Clinical Nurse for the Milwaukee AIDS Clinic, Aurora/Mt. Sinai Hospital, and concluded his career at the AIDS Resource Center of Wisconsin (ARCW).

Doug received many awards, including the UWM College of Nursing “Pioneer Award.” He was extremely proud of his recognition by the ARCW for his contributions and dedication. In 1990, Milwaukee Magazine named him as “One-of-Twenty-Five of the Decade” who transformed Milwaukee.

Impact

Douglas W. Johnson made this gift through his estate to help nursing students thrive — both in pursuing their nursing education, and in pursuing careers devoted to enhancing health in their communities.
