Day-Vene Gilliam

As Day-Vene pursued her actuarial science major, she was supported by her math advisor, Karen Brucks. Karen was pivotal in her completion of her major. She encouraged Day-Vene to participate in opportunities through the Math department including a full department-funded trip to Nebraska for a women’s conference. Before her trip’s departure at one of their weekly study sessions, Karen handed her $50 in spending money for her trip. Karen wanted to make sure she didn’t go out of town without any funds despite everything being included. Karen truly cared about more than just her students’ academic success; she cared about them as individuals.
