“In 1961 college freshmen in their 30s were extremely rare. My mother, Nadine, was a pioneer in breaking the age barrier for college students and enrolled in the Milwaukee Area Technical College when I was in first grade. Upon graduation from MATC, she went on to UW-Milwaukee to pursue a teaching degree in elementary education. She taught 1st grade in the Milwaukee Public School System for over 20 years at R.B. Hayes and J.W. Riley schools. Loans and scholarships were integral to financing her education. Had she not pursued her dream, our family’s life may have been totally different. She added to our household’s finances which contributed to the wonderful life we enjoyed.” – Ardis R. Barthuli

“My mom wanted to give back and help others attain their goals. To help her achieve this goal, I am creating the endowed scholarship so others also may pursue their dreams and achieve a better life for their families.” – Ardis R. Barthuli
