Helen A. Berry Memorial Scholarship

The Helen A. Berry Memorial Scholarship is given to a student accepted into The Washington Center internship program for an experiential learning internship in Washington DC. The Washington Center program includes:

  • A full-time internship at a site in the Washington DC area which could be at a government agency, a nonprofit, or a corporate entity
  • One class run by The Washington Center chosen from a wide list of options
  • Workshops, advising, and networking events focused on professional and career development

  • Network with industry professionals and students from around the country
  • Explore different career paths and opportunities
  • Earn 12 UWM credits – students will work with their UWM advisor to select appropriate internship and independent study credit and possibly an online UWM class

This scholarship will cover significant portions of the costs of The Washington Center program and in-state UWM tuition for up to 12 credits so that the student continues to make progress towards graduation while spending a semester away from UWM.

To be considered for this scholarship, students must have demonstrated financial need as shown on the FAFSA, be a junior or senior during the time of the internship, and have a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher.

Applications are typically accepted in Spring semester for summer or fall internships, but students interested in completing the internship in a spring semester can inquire at let-sci@uwm.edu between October 1 and November 30 to see if scholarships are available.
